Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. is in Athens, gearing up for his fight against Greek fighter Mike Zambidis this weekend. The 49-year-old Mayweather was originally slated to face Zambidis in what would have been the first boxing match for “Iron Mike” on Greek soil. However, due to “scheduling reasons”, the bout has been postponed until September, a decision jointly announced by both fighters. Mayweather expressed his dedication to the sport, stating, “I gave the sport a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to get to this point.”

Throughout his career, Mayweather has made several comebacks, with the most recent being in February when he returned to professional boxing after an exhibition match against former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. He’s also set to face his old rival, Manny Pacquiao, in Las Vegas this September. Speaking to Euronews, Mayweather shared that he feels fit and ready for a busy year of fights, crediting his workout regime and defensive style for keeping his body in top condition. “I’m able to still compete at this age,” he said, emphasizing his excitement about returning to Greece.

Mayweather added, “It’s always great to come to Greece,” and expressed happiness about being back, especially for the young people he inspires. He encouraged them, saying, “If I don’t, who will?” As the anticipation builds for his upcoming fight, fans are left wondering how the boxing legend will perform in the ring once again.
