Passengers aboard TUI River Cruises are raising alarms about their recent trips that turned into a nightmare, all while they forked out nearly £4,000 for what was supposed to be a dream holiday. Reports have surfaced from numerous travelers, detailing experiences on the Skyla and its sister ship, the Isla, where faulty air conditioning and broken toilets left them in discomfort during a blistering heatwave.
Earlier this year, some passengers found themselves stranded in Budapest without proper air conditioning, right in the midst of a sweltering heatwave. Can you imagine? With temperatures soaring, they faced oppressive conditions, and it seems TUI just didn’t deliver on their promises. Andy Peach and his wife, who embarked on a seven-day journey through Budapest, Vienna, and Linz this June, described their experience as “the worst TUI holiday we’ve ever been on.” The air conditioning, instead of cooling the ship, seemed to blow hot air, leaving them exhausted and desperate for relief. It’s like being trapped in a sauna but without the benefits of a good sweat!
To make matters worse, an air conditioning unit even blocked one of the corridors on the Skyla. Talk about adding insult to injury! Meanwhile, Joan Craven decided to check online before her trip and was assured by customer service that the air conditioning was functioning perfectly. But upon her arrival, a holiday representative dropped the bombshell that it was indeed broken. She felt completely misled. Many other passengers reported similar issues, especially with the plumbing, leading to widespread frustration.
Wendy Charnley, another traveler, painted a vivid picture of her experience, likening it to being in “a tropical house at a zoo.” Can you believe that? Some areas on the ship reached unbearable temperatures, making it a real trial for everyone onboard. And it’s not just her; Kevin Darvill, who boarded the ship in Frankfurt, immediately noticed that the toilets were malfunctioning, and the overall ambiance was just “really hot” with “no respite.” And the restaurants? They were described as “scalding hot,” leaving passengers feeling like they were trapped in a sweat box.
Adding to the chaos, TUI offered a measly £140 per person as compensation for these ongoing issues. But for many, including Darvill, this was not enough to make up for the discomfort and disappointment. After all, who wants to pay top dollar for a holiday only to end up feeling fobbed off?
The situation worsened as the Danube River’s water levels hit record lows this year, severely impacting European cruises. As July rolled around, the combination of low river levels and extreme heat began to create a perfect storm of problems for cruise operators. Tony Harper learned just days before his trip that coach travel would replace some sailing, but he also pointed out the issues with the ship itself. Portable air conditioning units were onboard, but they were utterly ineffective. “You can’t hold it against them for the low river; that’s just nature,” he said, but it seems the company’s failure to maintain comfortable conditions was another matter entirely.
TUI River Cruises has acknowledged these challenges, stating that the extreme heat has put their systems under an unprecedented strain, leading to necessary repairs and maintenance work. They claimed to be investing in significant upgrades to their air conditioning systems across their fleet this winter. But will that be enough? Will they manage to turn things around before more passengers find themselves in similarly uncomfortable situations?
Bakalım bundan sonra ne olacak?
