As the Electoral Reform Society campaigns for a smaller and more democratic House of Lords, there are calls for the next prime minister to deliver on promises of reform. Darren Hughes, the chief executive of the Electoral Reform Society, stressed that the Lords must be more representative and accountable to the people. Meanwhile, peers are bracing for new attendance rules as proposed changes loom on the horizon, including the removal of hereditary peers from the chamber as new legislation progresses.
