She thinks the focus on such a trivial matter distracts from the real challenges candidates face in the job market. “I don’t know any Gen Z candidate who would risk showing up with iced coffee, though. They might think you’re not taking it seriously,” she adds, emphasizing that accepting a drink offered by the employer is totally fine.
According to Dan Craddock, director at Hays, it’s crucial for employers to avoid “snap judgments.” He insists that focusing on superficial details like drink choices can detract from what truly matters: the candidate’s qualifications and fit for the role. Chris Mason, co-founder of a tech recruitment agency, echoes this sentiment, advising candidates to remain serious and focused during interviews. He warns that bringing snacks or specialty drinks, like iced coffee, might undermine the impression they want to create.
