A widow from Bristol is taking legal action against an airline after her husband tragically died following severe turbulence during their flight. Linda and Geoff Kitchen were excitedly embarking on a six-week holiday to Singapore, Indonesia, and Australia when disaster struck. Linda recounted the harrowing moments leading up to her husband’s fatal injury, expressing the devastation she felt upon hearing of his death. “When I got separated from Geoff, I knew he was in a bad way, but nothing prepared me for hearing he had died. It was absolutely devastating,” she said, her voice trembling with emotion.
The couple had encountered some turbulence while flying over Europe, and things became increasingly shaky over the ocean. However, it was about 10 hours into the flight that they faced the most severe turbulence. Linda recalled, “Geoff’s phone had fallen to the floor, and I thought the plane was going down.” The chaos that ensued left her in shock, and she spent ten days in the hospital before being airlifted back to Bristol. “I was in so much pain that the journey was a blur. Once back in the UK, I remained in the hospital for around a week and, following my discharge, required significant assistance at home,” she added.
The severity of the incident is further highlighted by the fact that Geoff was fatally injured while Linda also suffered serious injuries during the ordeal. “It’s been over two years since Geoff passed away, and all I want is for the most thorough investigations to be conducted,” she emphasized. Her legal action comes as a major step towards seeking justice and answers for those who loved him. “The issuing of High Court proceedings is a major milestone in being able to provide Geoff’s loved ones with the answers they deserve,” she stated firmly.
The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with air travel, and many are left wondering how such an unfortunate event could occur. What measures are in place to ensure passenger safety during flights? As Linda fights for justice, the aviation community is left to reflect on the importance of thorough investigations and improved safety protocols.
