Gen Z’nin Tercihi: Kardiyodan Ağırlık Antrenmanına Geçiş!

When Antonia Duffin, 34, first stepped into the gym, her goal was simple: lose some weight and get toned. But what started as a personal quest turned into a full-blown lifestyle change. So much so that she decided to become a personal trainer while juggling her day job at a supermarket chain. Now, she proudly runs her own women’s gym in Manchester, making waves in the fitness community. Antonia points out that hybrid training, like Hyrox, is now all the rage, overshadowing the old-school treadmill runs and boring bike sessions. She’s noticed a growing appetite for strength training among younger gym-goers, who are increasingly aware of the importance of preventing osteoporosis and other health issues.

What’s fueling this shift? Well, gyms aren’t just about cardio anymore; they offer a wider variety of exercises, especially resistance training, which can help reshape and improve body composition faster than traditional aerobic workouts. Antonia explains, “People are looking to get stronger and build up their physiques, and social media influencers are leading the charge. They say, ‘I did it, you can too!’” This sense of community and encouragement has a real impact on daily life, she notes.

In her gym, which is housed in a shipping container, you’ll find barbells, kettlebells, dumbbells, and cable machines – all essential tools for strength training. Antonia says that recent research suggests doing the recommended two hours of strength training each week can provide many of the same benefits as regular aerobic exercise, such as reducing the risk of heart disease or stroke while also boosting self-esteem and brain health. But it’s not just about the physical perks; many people report feeling a strong connection with others when they work out together.

Dr. Hussain Al-Zubaidi, a GP, personal trainer, and triathlete, highlights the flourishing ecosystem of fitness communities. He emphasizes how crucial it is to have easy access to local clubs, likening it to an essential utility bill. “If you go to the pub and you see familiar faces, you want that same vibe at the gym,” he says. Living just a five-minute walk from her gym allows Antonia to hit the ground running at 6:30 AM before heading to work. Her routine now includes ten minutes on a stair-climbing machine followed by 35 minutes of lifting weights and using machines to target her thighs, hips, and lower back.

Antonia’s transformation is pretty remarkable. Gone are the days of endless cardio; now she relishes the challenge of hitting targets and lifting heavier weights. “I want to enter my 30s feeling strong,” she declares. And what’s more, she finds the new routine oddly more sociable. It’s as if the gym has become a second home for her.

So where does this trend leave the old-school cardio lovers? Are they ready to ditch the treadmills for the weights? It seems like a new era of fitness is upon us, one that values strength just as much as endurance. And as prices soar for supplements and other fitness products, it’s clear that Gen Z is finding innovative ways to stay fit without breaking the bank. What’s next for this dynamic generation in the gym?
